When you get married, leave the city, have a baby, buy a house, and then you turn 30, New Year's eve takes different shapes. For the arrival of 2009 we did 10 pm dinner in the village at Otto, a Mario Batali gem (where my college friends deftly took a few bottles of wine from the rack we happened to sit too close to). To ring in 2010 we did a similarly tardy meal, followed by escapades in the west village, from which the hubs and I stumbled home to our one room apartment and slept with the window wide open while snow accumulated on the windowsill. Celebrations for 2011 (4 months pregnant) and 2012 (7 month old baby) involved the couch and sparkling cider.

This year, to celebrate the start of a year that hopefully brings prosper and joy, we will celebrate at a friend's house party, but we will do so on Saturday, for many similarly situated (old and married) friends will be working on New Years, and our free babysitter (grandma) is booked for the occasion. So while we prepare to ring in the New Year a few days early, a fierce outfit is always in order.

Madewell top (reduced from $115 to $39)

Last year's JCrew toothpick jeans, purchased full price but worth every penny

Via Spiga Jennifer pumps (on sale at Zappos right now)
JCrew statement necklace, a Christmas gift from my Mom

  1. Love that necklace - the outfit is perfect! Good thing I'm free!
