Wedding Bells

A weekend of parties put the hubby's tux through the wringer, but its a great chance to finally wear some bright tiers and high heels. Driving my mom's SL 550 around for the night doesn't hurt either!

Spring Spots

Navy and orange is not new, not novel, and not noteworthy. But it is still amazing, and each spring, it feels as fresh as a vase of cut tulips on Easter Sunday. I don't pretend to be edgy, as I obviously like stripes and collared shirts far too much for that claim (though my husband might argue to the contrary when I come home after a long day of work and find that there are dirty dishes in the sink). So I am comfortable not pushing the limits of stalwart style and instead reveling in a reliable ensemble.

This look is head to to toe J.Crew, including the bag. Again, not clever, original, or inspiring, but sometimes its just easier that way :)

Trials and Tribulations (part II)

Though I love going to NYC for my weekly or so client meetings, and feeling pangs for my old post-college life in Murray Hill, this week the trip was not such a joy. Like all things, the honeymoon eventually ends and fatigue overcomes optimism. The ticket machine would only take cash. In 2013, who has cash in their wallet? I shoved my one and only $20 into the slot to pay the ridiculous $12.50 one way fare. The machine spit out a hundred coins in return, which promptly exploded from the slot and landed in various locations around my feet and those of the 3 angry people waiting in line behind me. Too embarrassed to collect all one hundred small coins, i scrapped up what I could (chipping a nail on the cement as I raked them into my freezing cold hand) and hobbled off to the platform.

Ill spare the details of the day (which involved waiting for 20 minutes on the incorrect subway platform for a train that never came, tripping on a sidewalk in Brooklyn in front of several lawyers on their way to Federal Court, and missing the direct train home).  In my haste to catch the long, connecting train I was left with as my only option, I failed to remember I had only bought a one way ticket from the machine earlier in the day, and realized I had no ticket in Jamaica. The conductor was humorless and angry, and nearly gave me a paper cut on my chin as he ripped a bill from his fanny pouch and tossed it at me with snippy instructions to pay at a window in Penn Station. And people wonder why NYC residents are so jaded.

Going Green

Yes, I am impulsive. I can't wait to get home to rip tags off of new purchases, I begin eating take out 2 miles before we get it home, and I rush to the grocery store to buy kale the minute I decide to juice cleanse. In an effort to temper my temptations, I have tried adding one new thing a day, and then sticking with those that turn from lust to love. Exhibit one: the green juice.

Everyday for the past 2 weeks I have started the day with a new take on a green breakfast shake. As long as it contains some fruit, even the most anti-vegetarian would never know there is also a days worth of green veggies (take for example, my 22 month old son, who always has several sips and definitely doesn't yet care about his own nutrition). This particular concoction has the following ingredients:

1 handful organic spinach
1 container fat free, plain Greek yogurt
1 handful organic strawberries
6 baby carrots
2 tablespoons lemon juice

I highly recommend this for those curious about a juice cleanse but far too hungry and in love with wine to take the plunge (like me!)

Spring Ahead

This was one of the few mornings I woke up and discovered there was not a pre-selected outfit hanging neatly in my closet room. (Since I arrived home close to 11:00 pm the night before, after attending an important client's formal gala for work I shouldn't have been surprised, but it is still jarring for me to hobble together an outfit in so little time). The pony tail is a must for hair the morning after it's been sprayed, shellacked and pulled perilously (and of course, there was no time to wash it).
